Description

The central Grachtengordel (Canal Belt), which is composed of three circles, forms the best-known canals. When the canals were constructed, 90 islands were created and they were all linked by hundreds of charming bridges. The semicircular canals are sliced like spokes on a wheel by canals radiating from the centre. They were founded during the Dutch "Golden Age" in the 17th century.
