The Amber Castle, built in 1592, once served as the Kachchawahs' palace and capital. The Rajasthan Hill Forts were granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2013. The Amber Fort sits on a hilltop and faces out over Maota Lake, situated about 7 miles from Jaipur. You must make the steep climb by foot, jeep or elephant, passing under the Sun Gate, to reach the fort.
