On the trans-Saharan trading road, A ̄t Benhaddou is a UNESCO-World Heritage-listed city. The star of the region is the Kasbah of Telouet, once the luxurious residence of the notorious Thami el Glaoui, the Lord of the Atlas, in the 20th century. At the edge of the High Atlas Mountains, the town is perched and fortified with walls of dark red pis.
