Description

The Acropolis dates from the 5th century BC and its main temple, the Parthenon, dominates it. The place is extensively protected, preserved and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It portrays Greece's riches and strength at the height of its culture and influence. Yet Athens' dense pollution has taken its toll on the gleaming white marble the temples are built of.
