Cultural-Historical
In the mid 19th century, during the re-flowering of Greek culture after independence, the Neoclassical Academy of Athens was founded. The National Institutes of Science, Philosophy, Fine Arts and Humanities are situated here, continuing a practice first founded by Plato around 387 BC. The main entry is from an ornamental colonnaded portico surmounted by carvings on the decorated pediment.
